J.B. Smoove to hit the 'Smooth Sailing Comedy Cruise' on Detroit's Princess Riverboat.
It's that time again ... here are five of our favorite goings on in and around the D from the Summer Smash at the CAID and the Madonna Dance party at Luna to the hilarious J.B. Smoove on the Detroit Princess!
8/21 - 8/23 Detroit Summer Smash @ The Contemporary Art Institute of Detroit (CAID)
In its ninth year and through some venue changes, the Detroit Summer Smash is (still) in full effect. Beginning at 9 p.m. on Thursday, August 21st you can catch some of the city's hidden musical gems. Like who? Well Silverghost for one, the Electric Fire Babies, Prussia and tons more! On Thursday, it's $5, Friday and Saturday it's $8 or $16 for a festival pass.
8/21 Madonna Tribute Dance Party @ Luna
Madge just turned 50 and what better way to celebrate than in Royal Oak with a special performance by the Luna dancers. We encourage you to dress up in your favorite Madonna look whether or not you decide to go to this. Would it be the 'Like A Virgin' version? Perhaps the raven-haired one, covered in henna? Or how about the flannel-skirt and 'Kaballists Do It Better' tee shirt donning one?
We nearly fell off our chairs when we learned J.B. Smoove was going to be in the D. Come on, who's J.B. Smoove? And you call yourself a 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' fan. Yes, Leon Black is part of this comedy show. He made last season's CYE even more hilarious ... "Close the door behind you. Take a spray paint can, right? Larry was here. You spray paint Larry was here ..." We only hope he can bring the laughs like he does when we're sitting on our couch with a big bagga Baked Lays. Even better, this show is on the Detroit Princess mega-boat and will have a buffet! Dinner cruise from 6:30 - 9:30 p.m., $59.95, click here for tickets!
8/23 Ride My Cadillac @ Plan B
There's gonna be a whole lot to see at Plan B (so make it your Plan A, yo) on Saturday. Detroit By Design and Camilo Pardo are set to showcase hand painted models, the Dj lineup includes Dereak Plaslaiko, Terrence Parker, DJ Seoul, Josh Dahlberg, Drew Maddox and more AND Proceeds will be donated to music programs in the Detroit Public Schools. 9:00 p.m. - 4:00 a.m., $10 Cover /$30 VIP
8/23 It's All About the D @ Heidelberg Project
Drop by Detroit's iconic Heidelberg Project (on Heidelberg & Elba streets between Mt. Elliott & Ellery) anytime from 12 - 8 p.m. for the free fest "It's All About the D." Check some fun and funky stuff like Hump the Grinder's Hair Wars, free massages, Polka Dot Faces in the Hood and Jessica Care Moore and 'Containers in the D' and more! Don't forget your camera as there's likely to be much to see and capture.
