The end of July marks a difficult time for shoppers, as tons of summer stuff is deeply discounted, but we're sort of looking to fall now. Our advice while perusing the summer sales? Before you whip out the Am Ex, ask yourself "Can I carry this through fall or will I wear it next summer?" That being said, check out Downtown Northville's shop sales August 1st and 2nd.

When I used to think of Downtown Northville, I thought of going to the Flower Show with my mom. I had never really thought of Northville as a downtown to go shopping for gear that I'd wear, but take a stroll down Center and Main Street and you too will be pleased - those two little blocks are surprisingly stylin'!

Like other city sidewalk sales, this is an event the whole bunch can enjoy. There will be things happening throughout the city, especially in the town square like music and dancing, you know the fun family stuff. And bonus, Northville Public Schools’ students will be on the streets selling refreshments to benefit their "Kids Helping Other Kids" program, created to collect and ship food overseas to kids in need. They hope to raise at least $5000 during this weekend's sale.

What kinds of shops are in Northville? Well, it's a mixture of stuff - pet stores, wine stores, bridal boutiques, custom suites, designer denim sops, super cute shoe shops, etc. Not the forget all of the great art galleries that line the blocks. The list goes on and on ... but here are some of the shops that caught my attention.

Rococo is a contemporary women’s store that has racks full of summer gear that will be 40% off! They also have some of there fall stuff in and trust me you will leave this store looking hot. I think I fell in love with at least 5 different dresses that I think I am gonna go have to go back and grab. 137 E. Main St. 248.449.8066

Rock on Main is full-o-goodies. This place is packed with Detroit pride, but in the way I want to rock it (not the high school or college jock way). They have threads for guys and gals. Fo the sale, they will have Junk Food T-Shirts (you know the vintage inspired tees with cute stuff on the front) for $10 and 2 for $40 denim deals. 215 W. Main St. 248.349.0345

Urban Blues proves that we can have better butts through jeans! Dana, the owner, is super helpful. Thanks to her, you'll leave knowing you look smokin' in those J Brands or Rock & Republics. They have Michael Stars stuff on sale for $15-$30. William Rast, among others for 50% off and another rack for 70% off ... must see to believe bargains! 114 W. Main St. 248.344.9000

Lorla’s is there to fulfill your shoe fantasy, purses too! Upon opening the doors, I was in love. They will be having a $10 table; yep you read that right, $10. All of the summer styles will be on sale for 20% off. If you have a Club Card then you get 40% and from what I hear the club card is the way to go. On Friday August 1, anything that starts with a “B” will be on sale. So you better "b" there! 142 N. Center St. 248.348.9270

It's so easy to shop local! For more info check out downtownnorthville.org or call the Northville Chamber of Commerce at 248.349.7640.
